Another morning. I open the window with the joy of sipping from the sunrise. Thanks. The noise of the street is covered by birds. Two sparrows swoop down on the branch in front of the window, tempting the cat that has just taken the shape of a crescent. The clock ticks annoyingly rhythmic, out of sync with time. For the last twenty years the same voice from the suspended screen has been outlining an implausible TODAY for me. My eyes smile under the straw hat. From the suspended screen, the same voice, twenty years old, outlines an implausible TODAY for me. Under the straw hat my eyes smile. I shout from the doorway, Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2022, the group has 8,750 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
