The nurse called the doctor. She stuck the needle into his chest and pumped the adrenaline inside. He woke up as if he was electrocuted. He was writhing and pulled out his I.V.s. His heart was racing uncontrollably. The nurse calmed him down, explaining that they had found him outside of the compound the night before. In the meantime, the doctor came. He asked him, transfigured, what day, year and month was. He realised that this was not his planet, nor his time. And the hour? Here at the North Pole, we can choose any hour we would like. He had broken the spell, perhaps. Finally, he had a chance for a different future.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2022, the group has 8,750 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
