When he came back from a smoke, the moon revealed his livid figure through the window, stemming from our vicious argument, when I had threatened him that I would confront her the following day, to which he answered dull like a tooth ache: suit yourself. The next day, I followed him religiously, even to the flower shop, from where he came out with a beautiful lily bouquet. As he arrived at her house, he let himself be welcomed warmly by everyone in the courtyard, and went in. I, too, slipped in through inquiring looks, determined to cause a scene. I couldn't hear, I couldn't think, I was searching for her. There she laid in a coffin. His mistress.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2022, the group has 8,750 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
