We were awaiting to play with the two boys from Bucharest who came to their grandparents during the summer holiday. We were only girls of the same age in the apartment building, and we shared them each year. At six or seven years we were already dreaming of having boyfriends. We would imagine movie scenes and the two of them were playing the roles we imposed on them. We would send them to gather herbs to eat, to get water from the well, to wait in queue early in the morning to get milk and to take care of the household. Until the day in which Ștefănuț cried his heart out because he no longer wanted to be married.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In July 2022, the group has 8,750 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
