He would taking swimming and drawing lessons while I would drown in my own spit and in the pigs' dirt. He would take riding and piano lessons, I would ride brooms and play at the leaf. He would go to shows dressed neatly, I would play with the shadows of my fingers on the walls. He would fly gliders with his father, I would run after plastic bags taken by the wind. He would be rude to the maids, I would tell him: Sir, stop hitting me. Now he's paralyzed after having fallen off his horse while I'm the doctor keeping him alive. Life is fair.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
