A little blue house mirrors the sun in the windows, flashing the green of the hill. I am nine years old. And I have many friends. We laugh so loud, we wake the angels. The boys climb the cherry trees, so brave. Daiana and I weave crowns of wild flowers. At sunset, we squeeze the cherries passionately and make the boys a well-earned dinner. The wind whispers softly from the forest. It calls us. We run to embrace the trees. We're far from the grey world of grown-ups. It's warm. I look away. Suddenly, I've grown up within myself.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
