I went to the station and I took the bus towards the past because I needed to have a chat with a rock, they plucked me from my conversation so they could send me to school. The rock had gotten older, I knelt down and took it into my arms, like a mother, and asked it to forgive me - I didn't want to leave, but they uprooted me and tried to make a woman out of me. There's a rock on every corner, they said. The rock was warm, and my feet were full of dust. My grandfather was walking by my side, and I was carrying the milk. When it starts to get heavy, put it down. I put it down.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
