The scooter with the wheel lights and the tricycle were sitting by the house. I was begging the kids from the co-op to let me take them for a ride, mum mumbled, but you wouldn't even look at them. Baffled, she heard him giggle. The child was running through the grass with a plastic bag fluttering in the wind. Woah, he jumped and his feet sparkled green in the afternoon light. He threw himself to the ground, wild with laughter, over the blanket that's been sitting on a chair to dry. That giggle is sending sparks of anger though mom's mind. This is what it was like, yes, she whispered, I forgot, how could I forget.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
