Close your eyes and breathe slowly, but deeply. There, very good. Now picture a mirror in which you see yourself as a child. Not an adolescent, not a schoolkid, a child. What is your first memory? At your grandparents' house, in the countryside, feeding the chickens. How old were you? From the holographic histogram of your memory you seem to be three years old. Are you sure you don't have an older memory? Ok, we start from here. Imagine that you open the pen and let the chickens out onto the street. Your grandparents scold you and send you home. Good, now I see that you have some memories involving your father as well.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
