Wasn't there anything more interesting to do? Just to stand there, stiff, among the cobs, waiting to be noticed, to impress? I'm really getting tired of it. One comes, then another, they come in groups and I stand guard so that no one goes unnoticed. I react to everything that comes up and comment on it, because, why, I'm not content being just a scarecrow. Well, look who else showed up. Now that's a revelation: Dorothy, the Tin Man and the Fearless Lion. Let's go. I'll ask the wizard for another brain. And more characters.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
