Through the bullet wound in the little girl's right eye, the doctor saw as if through a keyhole. He saw God crying, wringing his terribly old hands without hope. Through his trembling fingers, evil had slipped into the world. There was nothing to be done anymore. The universe shuddered and began to shrink like a pupil which had captured inside everything and nothing and the source of them, defeated by its own creation. It cowered in the child's left eye and went stone-still with grief. The doctor sealed it shut with the cold eyelid and sank into the void.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
