I wonder who ate that piece of chocolate with steak? Who took all the little soldiers and put them on the table? A happy squeaking sound came from the closet. I wonder who will get ice cream because recited the whole poem in kindergarten. Who sleeps tomorrow how much he wants? I wonder who wants pancakes? The squeaking went on and the door of the wardrobe moved a bit. Who. Who. The kid burst into laughter. The mother opened the door of the closet. They were both laughing heartily together. The kid stopped suddenly and put on a straight face. Mommy, how did you find out where I was?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
