In the morning, they lurk at the entrance to the opposite block of flats. When I see the glasses man from 4th floor come out, I run to the balcony with the cup of coffee and the pack of cigarettes. It doesn't take long for his wife to appear at the window. She slowly unbuttons his pyjamas, sketches a few gymnastic moves, gives me a discreet wave, then closes the window. Unfortunately, Geta is also retiring. She told me: Grigore, I can't wait to drink coffee together on the balcony. God, keep his file, at least until it gets cold.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
