She was walking up the path, carrying a small amount of wood on her back. Occasionally, her clothes would cling to the bushes on the side. Having reached the top, she stacked them in the shed, they'll come in handy during winter, she thought. She'd been living in the modest house among the firs for many years, ever since her husband had passed away. Some chickens and a goat were the only ones keeping her company. Rarely would a hiker passionate about mountain trails reach her, delighted by the fresh air and the stunning landscape. This is my home, kid, I won't leave this place until God calls me.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
