Maybe he wouldn't have fallen in love if he had taken the main road, as he had initially intended. But, because there was more shade on the back road, he had chosen that one and consequently had fallen in love. He didn't know her, but it seemed that she had always been his. They were one smile apart. Her lips were slightly pursed and his eyes were reading her thoughts. In his mind, he was kissing her neck. Her mind had consented to being embraced. Their hearts had called each other, they knew each other. Their lips hadn't parted. The footsteps carried on.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In August 2022, the group has 9,000 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
