Same heatwave as before, not a cloud in the sky and big hullabaloo - dozens of high schoolers paraded through the 312-year-old courtyard on their last day as students. 12B, movie stars: I was Malena, walking as confidently as she did in my black dress, wearing my hair exactly as it is now, and was looking for you in the crowd. I was living every second intensely, I knew the moment was important and I would miss us then and there. What I didn't know was that it was the last day we had the world at our feet, the first night of wandering. And no sign of a compass.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
