I was the only one with pierced ears. Judas Priest T-shirt, ripped jeans, skull bandana. Angelica, my first love, was standing in the corner of the disco where the prom was being held. Anyway, she didn't know I thought of her while I was listening to ballads. I lit my cigarette like the ultimate punk, cracked open my beer using the table and got into the chatter. She wanted to go to med school. One thing led to another, and I invited her to a deserted wagon on the town outskirts. She agreed on one condition, that I danced with her to manele. Since then, that's how my days have been, one good, ten bad.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
