I throw off my school uniform and put on my tight dress. I undo my hair and put on eye makeup and lipstick in front of a mirror shard. My classmates are still in the schoolyard, so I go out the back, jump the fence and get lost among the trees in the park. He shows up, sits on the bench and loosens the knot in his tie. I jump onto his lap and run my hands through his soft hair. I missed this, I tell him as I'm playfully wriggling my hips. He takes my head in his hands and says: I quit my job at school. Why? We've been hiding for so long. My wife found out; we're leaving town.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
