For four years he humiliated me. All my female classmates looked up to him. Some of them were really in love with him. I knew I didn't stand a chance. He proved it with every look and insult He once told me I belonged in that hospital under the bridge. I cried. He liked my desk mate instead. They'd often discuss smart topics, totally ignoring me. Then, after the last homeroom, I got a call from an unknown number. It was him, my history teacher. He told me he'd loved me like mad for four years.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
