I hear everything I wish would not be heard beyond them. My silent cry when I was left only with the key. The sob after an indifferent girl and the sound of the pen while writing a letter. The fear of leaving for the military, not understanding why mom is crying. The fear of getting married, not understanding why dad is laughing. The awe of being myself the head of the family and a dad, creating wings for children. The joy and sorrow to see them fly beyond the walls in which they already heard everything. And then the silence that is heard the loudest between the walls that are getting closer.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
