The plastic doll with a frozen smile and eyes that stare blankly is hugged tightly by some small hands. She caresses her blonde hair and from time to time, she covers spasmodically her ears. Next door, reproaches and poisoned words are flying everywhere, and untold truths kept for a long time are now exploding. The walls are transforming into transparent paper in which you can see dragons spreading fire, trying to rip each other apart. Don't be afraid, you are with me, whispered the little girl, and the wall split open uncovering a window through which two butterflies were flying.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
