We thought we'd play chess with the cups. I filled them with brandy, whiskey, vodka and tequila. We said let's make the game even more thrilling: for the big lost pieces, we'll take off one of our clothes. Let's start. Boom, an exchange of pawns. Then two more. She makes a move with the pawn but my knight makes her lose her shirt. Tough fight but I promised myself that me remaining only with underwear on will be worth it if I leave her without a bra and panties. At the last two glasses, by the time I realized it was a draw, the queen had already fallen asleep.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
