Two centipedes, one white and one black, were doing their thing on a shabby checkerboard, forgotten under the mulberry tree behind the house. The black wicked one, withthirty-two hastily taken steps, temporarily asserted their supremacy and said to the white one: There is no place for both of us under the sun, so I will eat you. In reverse, the white one watched in horror as its end approached and, reaching the edge of the board, said to it: If you take 8 more steps, I'll throw myself. The unsightly didn't even blink and took four more steps. The white one jumped and grew wings. I'm flying.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
