Total insanity. The black queen ran off with some fools, of various colors, because, after all, why not, they had the same slanted vision. The white king is locked in the rooks, so that the pawns don't see how drunk he is. The horses have escaped, wild on the cobbles, grazing wildly. The remaining fools are instructing the pawns "come on, little steps, but confident ones, queen, I'll put you at the head of the line". The melancholic white queen and the black (angry) king made reservations at an all-inclusive hotel (meaning food and bed) and bought tickets to the Seychelles, for I still got the blues for you.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
