She was a swagger of a girl, beautiful and skilled at weaving words like a warlock in war and spinning wool like fingers in a mess. When her mother sent her to the bishop with gifts, she said to her: take care that the bishop is a bit out of his mind. She found him moving mother-of-pearl figurines on a black and white board. What is this, father? God bless you, little girl. This is how He moves us all according to His will. She touched the pieces of mother-of-pearl with soft fingers, caressing the horse. And this? It's you, little girl. Like him, you will put your husband in the corner if you learn how to talk a lot.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
