The last tears fell on the white. Then it was just black. Black in front of the eyes, black in the roof of the mouth. And the step was still on black. When the black cat cut my path, I took three steps back and aimed at the white one. I turned all white. When it started snowing in my hair, my locks turned because of with frost. I could feel my eyelids heavy because of frost and before I fell asleep I felt him on my shoulder. He pressed his rough cheek to mine and blew hot. Then he melted the cold between us with his wings, whispering: let go, you are mine.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
