I can't leave him. He was born as an angel and has an extra chromosome. So I have to take care of him. I knit him thick sweaters for the winter, he gets cold easily, then woolen stockings and hats to cover his ears. I bought him nearsighted glasses and headphones to listen to music. Then I hold him when he cries and is scolded for not having the dexterity of the other angels. He starts shaking and screaming when I'm in danger. I hold his hands close to his eyes as he trembles with fear. He wants me to let him fall, but I straighten his wings so he can fly.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
