The quickest robbery in history. While grandma was away taking out the trash, me and my brother ravaged what should have been the preparations for the New Year's Eve. A plate of steak, one of deviled eggs, one of Oriental salad, two trays of cake, a pot of cabbage rolls, three bottles of soda and one bottle of beer, 2 pound-cakes and 20 meatballs. No, we hadn't eaten it all, we'd just moved them one floor below where we were going to have a party. Andrei was home alone. All I left behind was an ambiguous drawing on the fridge and a note: The cat did it.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
