As soon as daddy leaves for work, mommy tells me: Danny, you've studied enough, you should go play football with the other boys. I take my ball and go out the front gate, but I don't head towards the football field, instead I go around the yard and hide behind the shed. They show up shortly after, Mommy first, then our neighbor, Mr. Tase. I watch them from between the wood boards and I listen in on the sound of the duet they sing while playing in the hay. They didn't play today, but I found out that I am going to have a little brother. I'm sure he will have curly hair, like pop Tase.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
