The blast horrified them. The bride trickled down under the table, the groom jumped out the window, the godfathers fell to the ground, the big mother-in-law fainted, the little mother-in-law vomited, the in-laws started hugging each other, the diners ran away in an atrocious fright. The smoke flooded the Community Center and Mrs. Ucă appeared from the kitchen all black, but alive. What were you thinkin? That the apocalypse is coming on a wedding day? The chimney fell over the pot of cabbage rolls, but I saved them from the slaughter. The mayor is the one to blame because I told him about this chimney since Vasile's wedding.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
