She came in the middle of the night, Your Honor. I was sleeping. She was wearing only lavender perfume and a matching silk scarf. She walked barefoot across the soft carpet to the kitchen, took the knife from its holder, ran the blade across her forefinger, then came into the bedroom. When she was done, she put the knife back and left. A waft of perfume and a small drop of blood was all that's left behind her. Coco, my parrot, has seen it all. "But I see that you're alive. Has something been stolen?","The heart, Your Honor, she stole my heart".

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In September 2022, the group has 9,250 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
