She was waiting by the window. A spirit. From the crack of dawn to the fall of night. She was wailing for time to drag her back. Groaning in the dark.So that her offspring may be returned to her. Pain had laid a thick crust on the heart, hardening it after every sob. God had bestowed four upon her, regardless of her wishes. She was 16. Her body soiled by sin. She only held Zina, thinking guilt would relieve the pain crushing her wound. However, the wound only grew deeper when three mouths showed up in her dreams, wailing after her now fruitless breasts. Twenty years later, forgiveness knocked on her door and welcomed her to heaven.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
