They were celebrating Tibb's Eve, a day when not a soul went out into the fields. Only Petre's soul was thirsting fiercely. He had lost Anuța some years ago and his black heart was still beating only to count the days. For some time, Iustina had haunted his nights. She had a knack at gathering hay with her fork, like nobody else. And his heart began to blush, today a speck like a wart, tomorrow a cherry, until it covered all his rooms, except the white one where Anne lay. At the Mass of the Lord's Ascension, Peter prayed to Anna to make room in her heart for Justina.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
