She had combed her hair long and dribbled sweet oils for softening hard hearts over her body. For the first time, she felt her skin ready to tingle at a fleeting breath or flutter of eyelashes. Aware of the cruelty of half a thought, she lifted her hair, revealing the back of her neck, on which a bead of sweat was sliding. The mirror returned his gaze, burning. The drop hit the floor as she confidently stepped and her last thought, his voice whispering to her what kind of love you want, slipped bloody to the edge of the tub.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In October 2022, the group has 9,400 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
