He woke up with a dull headache. He could barely figure out where he was. He tried to open his eyes, but realized they were covered with something. Don't be afraid, he heard a soft voice beside him. Your sight will return in time. Now we'll take care of the other wounds. The uttered words came into his being like echoes. He wanted to struggle and run, but he could not. Suddenly he remembered the dark red blood. How he saw the sky for the last time and how, as he lay on the ground, a white butterfly landed on his lip.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
