The three old ladies ate the very last sunflower seed. When is the movie starting? There's no movie today. Some guy from the city came to tell us how he made it in life. The old ladies giggled. Death is looking for us. The elegant gentleman on the stage of the Cultural Centre coughed discreetly, looked around the room and began his speech. I Was Born a Winner . What did he say? The old ladies looked at each other. That he was born into something. A young man sat next to them and laughed looking at his phone. The old ladies, with hope in their hearts, asked him. What did he say? That she loves me. Lol. I love her too.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
