I had to kill him; it was written so. I kissed his cold forehead, then whispered in his ear- do you think Heaven cares about your ashes? Why are you grinning? Do you really think It cares? I stared at him for a moment, because I knew it wasn't going to be the last time I would face death, and I told him: It could have been different, that's not what you wanted, you thought of yourself as unbeatable. You chose to follow me night after night. Now you'll burn, and I threw the match over the body covered in firewood, then watched the flames embrace the moon.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
