For each insecurity of his, he stuck needles in her heart. He felt relieved. For each minute in which she cared for the child, he nicked a part of her body. He thought that she didn't love and value him, that she didn't want to give him her time. For each movie they didn't watch together, he left the food on the plate untouched. He turned his face away from her and he left, slamming the door of her soul. He had no idea her heart was already riddled with holes. He poked knife after knife. Until he woke up alone, his cheek covered in a purple, yet honest, blood.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
