No, it wasn't a sparrow, it was a big-ass seagull. Right on the wedding day. Right on the wedding dress. Put on another dress, a red one, with a train, that managed to scandalize all the old women. Shucks, bloody girl, she brings the wrath of God. This marriage will last as much as the brandy at the inn on a frosty day, the hags would gossip crankily. But the chronicles prove that they were wrong. 65 years, four houses, seven kids, a bunch of nephews and about four thousand washed diapers we had together, the two of us. They didn't know you should not mess with a redwood tree.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
