I was eleven and I would still wet the bed. When I sensed him near me. He would send me to sleep on an empty stomach in cold, he humiliated me, made me kneel on walnut shells and kept me in chains. I was the bastard, that guy's offspring, I wasn't worthy of his attention. My mom fed me as she could, in secret. But she didn't defy him. He used to hit her. He only punched her stomach to hide the blows. Now I am taking him on his last journey on earth. I did everything by the book for her sake. She asked me to forgive him but tyrants can't be forgiven. I can finally live. But do I know how?

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In November 2022, the group has 9,580 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes almost daily. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
