Ever since Titel became bed ridden, Fița has been taking care of the house and food. And of Titel, of course, a noisy vegetable. In their old age, that's bad luck. He's lucky he's got the cards. He takes them, shuffles them, spits at them for good luck and turns them. Look, it's the skeleton with the scythe. Suddenly, the sky starts booming. The woman slams Titel in his chair and rushes to the door: Come on, Titel, let's die. The sky booms again. Fița gapes, raises her eyes and hands in prayer. Planes are flying like on a parade while the chair creaks loudly going downhill. Titeeeel. Crack. Well, nevermind, go if you're in a hurry. I'll take the next one.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2022, the group has 9,880 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
