She looked to the sky laughing. Out loud. Is today the last tomorrow? It could have been yesterday as well. Just as many people around, she shrugged her shoulders towards the empty street. The same level of communication with one's closest. She looked at the phone, vibrating with messages and notifications. Just as many things on the to-do list, the same unfulfilled resolutions sitting there for years. If a bullet had pierced through my chest's hole, said she contorting her face, if an asteroid had hit the shadows between my temples, only the thing that I have been missing for a long time now would remain, victorious. The silence.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2022, the group has 9,880 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
