You promised that enough is enough. You made a promise to yourself. You promised yourself that you wouldn't go past 70. Whore. You made lists, you wrote so many motivational notes for yourself. You looked at yourself in the mirror, through the pupils, into the depths of the universe and I thought you understood. I thought you would keep your promise. You said enough so many times, you said you would wear the modest flowery dresses, properly buttoned up, you liked them just that way, you said. You promised. You promised on the 31st, you promised on the first, you promised on Monday. You promised and yet, you're still fat.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In December 2022, the group has 9,880 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
