Whether it's a New York Times or a Herald Tribune paper hat, it's still a builder's hat. Cyrano de Bergerac's drama: his nose is used as a hat rack. Procrustes' hatter sets the hat at standard height, cuts off your head if you stand too tall. Our former president's hat, the Iliescu hat, if that's not guaranteed for life, which hat is? As for the proverbial Maria hat, now that's a hat of many colours. With the Schrödinger hat, when you have it on your head you get sunstroke, because you don't have it on. The hat of the Romanian naval fleet, you save it, you wear it just when you've got guests. The velvet hat is for when you run out of toilet paper during the pandemic.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2023, the group has 10,220 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
