When I got here, not even the rocks were in their places anymore. The fire had burned down the sorcerer's house and the smell of medicine had risen like a mist over the village. The ravens circled lower and lower, and the people locked themselves in their houses. I went into the tavern, tired from the journey, and asked for a beer and mutton stew. I was dipping my bread in the greasy sauce when a whisper reached my ear: be on your way, stranger. I looked around. There was nothing left. On the way out of the village, the corpse hanging from the gates wore a sign around his neck: don't twist me; I'm waiting for the Crows.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2023, the group has 10,220 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
