We can estimate how much more we need to walk to get there, Miruna, it will be fine, Octav said, smiling encouragingly. Then he gave Petra a worried look. It was hours since we had gotten out of the clearing indicated on the map. We should have already seen the Coama hill, where our cabin was. The rest of the group had already arrived. The sun was shining down on our faces with its last rays of light. There was a fight going on inside of me: the joy that came from having stopped and saved the deer versus the fear of what might come next. The moon was calling out to the wolves in the darkness that surrounded us very quickly. Halloween was about to begin.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2023, the group has 10,220 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
