The little girl had stolen her grandmother's doll and played with it all day. The sweet little brunette, cheerful and playful, had taken her friend through all the nooks and crannies of the yard: she gave her tea made from swamp water to drink and fed her the most delicious sand pies, they climbed up trees together, she dragged her through the mud, she threw her off between the branches of a tree with a bag as a parachute, and they ate chips made of pine needles together. At the end of the day, the neighbour only lived for 60 more minutes, scratched and wounded, covered in mud, vomiting sand, leaves and pebbles.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2023, the group has 10,220 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
