I had no doubts, you spent a period of time with me in which it seemed like you were interested in my life. You knew how to go about with my soul so you could get another confession out of it; it was all like back when we used to make cookies, placing the shapes carefully so that we'd use up all the dough. However, the kitchen no longer smelled of vanilla, but of your cigarette smoke and my bitterness. I longed for you to hold me in your arms, but you treated my despair with a Diazepam film. I threw it away, but those thousands of moments in which I lacked your love, those I still carry with me everywhere.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2023, the group has 10,220 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
