Please, let me have her for one night. I miss holding her while she sleeps. Stop yelling, I'm not coming back. I'm scared. It hurts. At least let me have her for one more hour. Thank you. She leaves the phone on the table, wipes away her tears and runs to the little girl who's waiting for her with her hands opened wide. Let's make a wish. She opens the window and they look at the biggest star in the sky. Mommy, I want to stay with you. The child's voice is obstructed by a knock on the door. "He lied to me again, the damn jerk. She holds the child tightly in her arms and jumps out the window. An hour. A night. Infinity.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2023, the group has 10,220 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
