I am standing lodged in the middle of the beach, hands raised, gathered together behind my head. I hope I am staying in the right place. I am tanned by everyone's glances, if I'd been in the meeting room I would have gotten bleached. A reputable IT guy is staring at me. I am staring but not at him, but in the back of my mind, where I am trying to find the solution for the issue I have to solve at work. The IT guy invites me to play volleyball, I hesitate, then I accept. Provocatively sweaty, I accept a beer, too. In the evening, we are dancing on a balcony. He is tickling my ear, then he says, only Fortuna could have put together your amazing body and my mind. I reply to him laconically, yeah.

Real Fiction is a collective project started in 2013 by Florin Piersic Jr. The concept of Real Fiction continued to exist as a Facebook group, after a volume of stories was published at Humanitas Publishing House. (In January 2023, the group has 10,220 members.) The authors write ultra-short stories, with the texts limited to 500 characters (in Romanian, so the length of the English translation might be a little different) - a flash-fiction exercise on a topic that changes every few days. The group's coordinators are Florin Piersic Jr., Gabriel Molnar, Răzvan Penescu, and Luchian Abel. (Drawing by Adrian T. Roman)
